Cirion Technologies anuncia llegada del buque de reparación del cable submarino en Venezuela

Desde el terremoto del 24 de junio de 2026 — el primero de magnitud 7,5 en Venezuela en casi 100 años — Cirion Technologies activó de forma inmediata sus protocolos de contingencia.

En menos de 48 horas, el anillo de conectividad de Caracas fue restablecido. En paralelo, la compañía activó rutas alternativas internacionales que han permitido mantener operativos a más del 60% de sus clientes.

Hoy la red interna de Venezuela opera con normalidad según un comunicado de prensa de la compañía.

El único enlace pendiente de restauración es el internacional, que depende de la reparación física del cable submarino cortado a aproximadamente 1.800 metros de la costa de La Guaira.

Una infraestructura diseñada para resistir

El cable submarino que conecta a Venezuela con el mundo llevaba 20 años en operación sin un solo corte. Su uptime histórico es de 99,9999% — el estándar más alto en telecomunicaciones.

El cable submarino sufrió daños como consecuencia directa de los terremotos del 24 de junio.

Prevención que hizo la diferencia

La respuesta inmediata de Cirion no fue improvisada.

La compañía es miembro de una cooperativa internacional de reparación y mantenimiento de cables submarinos, a la que destina varios millones de dólares al año para garantizar acceso prioritario a un buque especializado ante cualquier incidente.

Esa membresía fue lo que permitió movilizar el barco en días, no en meses.

Un proceso regulatorio sin precedentes

 

La operación requirió múltiples autorizaciones gubernamentales.

En condiciones normales, este proceso toma más de 45 días, sin embargo fueron obtenidas en tiempo récord gracias al trabajo coordinado con CONATEL, ministerios y autoridades venezolanas.

«Valoramos profundamente el acompañamiento de CONATEL y de todas las autoridades que hicieron posible avanzar a esta velocidad. Lo que logramos juntos en 14 días normalmente tomaría meses. Eso es lo que va a permitir que Venezuela vuelva a estar conectada al 100%», dijo María Claudia Rey Castillo— presidente Cluster Norte, Cirion Technologies.

Cómo se repara un cable submarino

 

Una vez posicionado sobre el punto del corte, el buque despliega un robot submarino que desciende al lecho marino, localiza el cable y realiza un corte limpio.

Los dos extremos quedan marcados con boyas. El equipo sube el extremo marino a superficie, lo energiza desde el barco y verifica con un instrumento de medición óptica que no haya cortes adicionales — con precisión de centímetros.

Una vez confirmado, sube el extremo costero y ejecuta la fusión: un láser con alineamiento micrométrico une ambos extremos de fibra — cada uno una fracción del grosor de un cabello humano. Se colocan protectores impermeables a presión sobre la unión.

El cable vuelve al fondo. Se inyecta electricidad desde tierra. La conectividad se restablece.
